Not exactly my cup of tea. Besides that, I don’t engage with much of the examples the writer is using to show the providence of God in a believers life. A wicked man finds his heart jonn against God when He smites him, but a gracious heart cleaves the closer to Him; he can love as well as justify an afflicting God.

We often overlook providence in our lives, but yet for the Christian it touches everything we do. However, perseverance with the text, the concepts, ideas and applications of Scripture yield some majestic treasures.

After encouraging the reader to derive needful wisdom and comfort from this fact, the author then proceeds to instruct how it is that we might go about meditating upon and applying the overarching theme of God’s providence to our lives. Like any good Puritan pastor he takes this doctrine and examines it from numerous different angles.

Walplate, had become infirm. He gives excellent advice on how to trust in God in the midst of those situations. I wanted to give the Lord praise for all he has done, is doing and will do in my life.

But for the person who will give the time to apprehend this most sacred of subjects, he will not be disappointed with the assistance of The Mystery of Providence. The language is a bit like they speak in a theatre and is sometimes hard to follow for a person whose first language is not English Instead of the stories Spurgeon peppers his writing with, Flavel brings along mytsery host of historic examples that brighten up his already pastoral style. Flavel provides an abundant store of examples of God’s providence. I would especially recommend this book to anyone who is suffering. It’s a beautiful and strengthening book I mystefy commend to anyone.

Having received his early education at the schools of the neighbourhood, he entered University College, Oxford, at an early age, and gained a good ot for talent and diligence. The Christian has no excuse not to be eternally grateful to provodence Lord for His providential care of His children.


Took me a while to fully appreciate the book. I think that it is a ‘must read’ book for Christians. This is a comforting book, and one Provkdence will re-read often in the future.

Certainly not a good book to give to non-Christians, but then again, that was not the public the writer had in mind.
