This is an interesting story on the subject of marriage which Dostoevsky wrote after the death of his first wife. The narrator investigates the girl’s background, and finds that she is at the mercy of two greedy aunts. At this point, my knowledge of Dostoevsky is still fairly limited: Now I feel inspired to go back and re-read some of those novels I loved all those years ago.
