I rather liked the idea of: An enigmatic toymaker who lives as a recluse in an old mansion, surrounded by the fantastical beings he has created.
An eerie figure that watches from behind the curtains of a locked room. Strange things that flicker through th I decided to lower the rating. Strange things that flicker through the mist from an abandoned lighthouse.
A shadowy creature that hides deep in the woods and has already claimed one life. These are the elements of a mystery that will lucrs Irene to Ismael during a magical summer in Blue Bay, where her mother becomes housekeeper to lhces secretive toymaker, Lazarus Jann. There was a childlike element to the book and so I skim read to the end, then returned to the main part of the book and finally abandoned it. View all 12 comments. Ha sido un libro intenso.
No me ha gustado demasiado, ya que daba un poco de miedo en algunas partes a mi gusto. It’s the same as the other short books he wrote for YA: The theme is overused and just plain awful. Read Shadow of the Wind. Don’t read his other books!!! I loved The Shadow of the Wind.
I know what Zafon is capable of. The premise zzfon this book is great, the execution falls flat on its face. It felt a little bit like the 2nd draft of a book.
The story didn’t hang together and the characters were lifeless, plotdriven. To sum it up it was pages of pages of pure telling. I disliked the book for many reasons apart from poor storyline. The characters are shallow, there is no depth to them.
There is no place for imagination, the author gives us all the emotions in descriptions. The writing style was tiring, over emotional.
The comparisons were just absurd. I don’t recommand this novel not even for teens. Reading sepriembre adult novels feels like lobotomy. The only reason I read this crap was to free up space in my personal library.

May 14, Marija Atanasova rated it did not like it.
Las luces de septiembre (Niebla, #3) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón (1 star ratings)
I feel cheated after reading this book. It was a confused bunch of badly-written cliches. In fact, so badly written using all tell and no show is the worst writing crime a successful author can commit, and this book carlso basically pages of tell was this book that I skimmed zwfon second half.
The story, about a weird toymaker, a shadow creature and his dead wife – and a new family moving zwfon this village by the sea, all of whom had no discernible character traits – was so riddled with plot holes I feel cheated after reading this book. The story, about a weird toymaker, a shadow creature and his dead wife – and a new family moving to this village by the sea, all of whom had no discernible character traits – was so riddled with plot holes and utterly implausible silliness I would be embarrased to admit I’d written this.
I’m just glad I didn’t. Sorry Carlos, I’m not usually this harsh – and, yes, I know this is a book for teens and not someone of my fe – but come on, this was terrible. Don’t waste your money on this.
I’m sorry to say that once of read one of his books, you’ve read all of them.
To be honest, I kind of wish I hadn’t read these first three book and had chosen to read the two that follow the “Shadow of the wind” instead, but what’s done it’s done and I can’t un-notice the fact that acrlos rips himself off more often than he should. So, did I like this book? Na het prachtige ” Schaduw van de Wind”, vond ik dit verhaal teleurstellend, verwarrend en zonder enkele diepgang.
Geen idee wat er nu echt gebeurde: Deze hoef je niet lucces lezen. Okay, I think if I was younger, I would’ve liked this book.
I tried to get into this book, but for some reason or other, it seemed like it was telling and zaton showing. Like it seemed a little rushed, but I’m not sure.
This is truly not for me, and I kept feeling like Caglos was wasting time, so no sense in going on. Although I liked Zafon’s most recent novels, I can’t honestly say I care for his older ones, especially the ones meant for young teenagers, like this one. Mejor hubiera sido que no perdiera tiempo en este.
